Firstofall,makesurethatthepersonwhoistalkingtoyouisactuallysolicitingadvice.Heorshemayjustwantyoutolistenandbeagoodfriend,seekinginsteadunderstanding,empathy,andcompassion.Don’tassumethateveryonewantsadvice.Youmayhavesomeinsightintotheproblem(s),butyoureallyneedtolistenattentivelytoapersonfirstforaverylongtimetounderstandthesituation.If,andonlyif,yourfriendactuallyASKSforadviceshouldyouthenfurnishit.

Itisagreathonortobeaskedforadvice,butitisalsoabig.Goodadvicecanhelppeoplemakesoundorfindtherightpathinlife,whilebadadvicecanhavedisastrousconsequences.Fortunately,withalittleforethoughtyoucanweedoutthegoodfromthe

Takeyourtime.Whenpossible,thinklongandhardaboutallthepossiblecoursesofactionandconsidertheprosandcons(orthebenefitsandcosts)ofeach.Thisisespeciallyimportantformorecomplexproblems.
