U.S.SecretaryofCommerceGinaRaimondotodaymetwithMinisterofCommerceofthePeople’sRepublicofChinaWangWentaotoadvanceU.S.commercialandstrategicinterests.ThemeetingwaspartofongoingefortstodeliveronPresidentBiden’sdirectivefollowinghismeetingwithPresidentXiinNovember2022todeepenbilateraldiscussions.

UnitedStatesandChinaandtookconcretestepstodeliveronthatgoal.SecretaryRaimondoandMinisterWangagreedto:

Establishanewcommercialissuesworkinggroup,aconsultationmechanisminvolvingU.S.

andPRCgovernmentoficialsandprivatesectorrepresentativestoseeksolutionsontradeandinvestmentissuesandtoadvanceU.S.commercialinterestsinChina.TheyagreedthattheworkinggroupwillmeettwiceannuallyattheViceMinisterlevel,withtheU.S.hostingthefirstmeetinginearly2024.

Launchtheexportcontrolenforcementinformationexchange,whichwillserveasa

platformtoreducemisunderstandingofU.S.nationalsecuritypolicies.Thefirstin-personmeetingwilloccurattheAssistantSecretarylevelattheMinistryofCommerceinBeijingonTuesday,August29.

Convenesubjectmatterexpertsfrombothsidestoholdtechnicaldiscussionsregarding

strengtheningtheprotectionoftradesecretsandconfidentialbusinessinformationduringadministrativelicensingproceedings.

CommunicateregularlyattheSecretaryandMinisterlevelaboutcommercialandeconomic

issuesandtomeetin-personatleastonceannually.

SecretaryRaimondodiscussedopportunitiestopromoteeconomicexchangewhereitalignswithU.S.interestsandvalues.SheunderscoredtheimportanceoflevelingtheplayingfieldforU.S.workersandbusinessesandensuringthefairandtransparenttreatmentofU.S.companiesinChina.Finally,SecretaryRaimondoreinforcedtheAdministration’scommitmenttotakingactionsnecessarytoprotectU.S.nationalsecurityandreiteratedtheAdministration’s“smallyard,highfence”approach,underscoringthatexportcontrolsarenarrowlytargetedattechnologiesthathaveclearnationalsecurityorhumanrightsimpactsandarenotaboutcontainingChina’seconomicgrowth.
