renownedTheMagicSchoolBusseries,passedawayonJuly12,2020,atage75.Coleis

JoannaColewasbornonAugust11,1944.Asayoungchild,Colehadapassionfor

scienceandwritingandlovedreadingsciencebooksandstudyingplantsandinsectsinher

backyard.Itwasastrangehobby,butshedidn'tmindstandingout.Infact,shedecidedto

pursuethisinterestintoacareer.Aftergraduatingfromuniversity,Coleworkedasalibrarian,

elementaryschoolteacher,andeditor,butdidn'tparticularlyenjoyanyofthesejobs.

Colebelievedthatelementaryschoolwasanimportantstageinachild'slifeandintended

tocontributetochildren'seducation.Shewroteherfirstbookonatopicthathadneverbeen

writtenaboutbefore:cockroaches(嶂螂)!Soonafter,shemetBruceDegen,whoalsohadan
