MedalbytheFrenchgovernment.

In1918,Irenebecamehermother?sassistantattheCurieInstitute.InDecember1924,Frederic

JoiiotjoinedtheInstitute,andIrenetaughthimthetechniquesrequiredforhiswork.Theysoonfell

inloveandweremarriedin1926.TheirdaughterHelenewasbornin1927andtheirsonPierrefive

yearslater.

Likehermother,Irenecombinedfamilyandcareer.Likehermother,IrenewasawardedaNobel

Prize,alongwithherhusband,in1935.Unfortunately,alsolikehermother,shedevelopedleukemia
