surveysandfisheriesdatatodocumentdeclinesinlargesharksofftheeasternseaboardof

theU.S.Thenumbers,reportedtodayinScience,arestark:Theblacktipshark

populationhasplummeted93%since1972,withsimilardeclinesfortiger,bull,and

smoothhammerheadsharks.Simultaneously,theabundanceof12ofthe14speciesthat

thesesharkspreyon—includingthelittleskate,thechaincatshark,andthecownose
