Preface
ThisStandardwaspreparedbytheAustralianmembersofJointStandardsAustralia/StandardsNewZealandCommitteeWS-001,WaterFittings,tosupersedeAS/NZS3499:2006.
Afterconsultationwithstakeholdersinbothcountries,StandardsAustraliaandStandardsNewZealanddecidedtodevelopthisdocumentasanAustralianStandardratherthananAustralian/NewZealandStandard.
Theobjectiveofthisdocumentistospecifyrequirementsforflexiblehoseassembliesforusewithbothheatedwaterandcoldwatersupplieswithamaximumheatedwatertemperatureof90℃usedforapplicationsabovegroundandaccessible.NominalsizesrangeuptoDN50,amaximumlengthof10mandwithanallowableoperatingpressureof1400kPaforsizesuptoandincludingDN25andprogressivelylowerpressuresforincreasinglylargerdiameters.
PerformancetestsarebasedinpartonEN13618.
ThemajorchangeinthiseditioninvolvestheadditionofnewClauses6.11,6.12and6.13,whichspecifyrequirementsforresistancetocorrosion,resistancetoultravioletdegradationandconformancetoproductspecification,alongwiththeirrespectivemethodsoftestinClausesB.10,B.11andB.12.Thenewperformancerequirement,Clause6.11,providesforhigherlevelsofcorrosionresistanceforhosesintendedtobesubmerged.
PerformancetestsequencingandsamplenumberingisdisplayedinTablesA.1andA.2.
Theterm“normative”isusedinStandardstodefinetheapplicationoftheappendixtowhichitapplies.A"normative"appendixisanintegralpartofaStandard.

1.1Scope
Thisdocumentspecifiesrequirementsforflexiblehoseassembliesforusewithwaterupto70℃andhightemperaturewaterat70℃to90℃andusedforapplicationsnotburiedandaccessible.
NominalsizesrangeuptoDN50(inclusive),amaximumlengthof10mforapplicationswheretheoperatingpressuredoesnotexceed1400kPaforsizesuptoDN25andprogressivelylowerpressuresforlargerdiametersasgiveninTable4.3.
Showerhosesforbathingonlyareexcludedfromthisdocument.

3.1General
3.1.1Corrosionresistance
Alltubereinforcement,suchasmetallicbraidingandcrimpfittings,shallbecorrosionresistant.
Forthepurposeofthisdocument,thefollowingmaterialsshallbedeemedtobecorrosionresistant:

3.2Plasticandelastomericmaterial
3.2.1General
Plasticandelastomericmaterialsusedinhoseassemblies,ortheircomponents,shallmeetalloftheperformancerequirementsofthisdocument.
NOTEConsiderationshouldbegiventothereactionofplasticsandelastomerswithothermaterialsduringnormallifespananduse.Characteristicstobetakenintoaccountshouldincludecompatibilityandresistancetovariationsinwaterqualityandelevatedtemperatures.

4.1Endconnectors
4.1.1General
Thedesignconfigurationshallbeatthediscretionofthemanufacturersubjecttoconformancetotheperformancerequirementsofthisdocument.Allendconnectorsshallbecapableofmakingawatertightjointwhenconnectedandtightenedinaccordancewiththemanufacturer'sinstructions.
Otherconnections(e.g.flange,camloc)shallconformtotherelevantAustralianorinternationalstandard.Forendfittingsspecifictoacustomer'srequirement,theintendedmatingfittingshallbesuppliedandtestedforconformancetoClause6.2.
4.1.2Threads
ThreadsotherthanwhenintendedtobeusedforaspecificdesignconnectionshallconformtoAS3688.

Ascopeofusestatementoflimitationsandconditionsshallbeincludedwiththeproductwhensold.ThestatementshallbeintheEnglishlanguageandclearlyvisibletothepurchaseranduser:Itmaybestampedontotheproduct,printedonthepackagingorincludedaspartoftheinstallationinstructions.
Whereitisnotpracticaltoincludethisstatement,adviceshallbeincludedthatthestatementisavailablefromthemanufacturer'swebsite.
5.2Installationinstructions
Flexiblehoseassemblyrequiringassemblyand/orfittingaspartoftheinstallationprocessshallbeaccompaniedbyinstallationinstructionsintheEnglishlanguage,includingadescriptionofinstallationrequirementssuchas—
(a)tighteningtorques;
(b)threadsizeandtype;
(c)minimumbendradius;
(d)operatingtemperature;
(e)pressurelimitations;
f)ultravioletdegradationduetoweatheringoranyotherlimitingfactor;
(g)flexiblehoseassembliesshallbeusedonlyinaccessiblelocationsandnotburied;and(h)theAustraliancontactdetailsofthemanufacturerordistributor.
TheinstallationinstructionsshallincludereferencestotherequirementsoftheAS/NZS3500seriesofStandards,includinganylimitationsontheproduct'suse.
Whereitisnotpracticaltoincludetheseinstructions,adviceshallbeincludedthattheinstructionsareavailablefromthemanufacturer'swebsite.

6.1General

EachsampleshallbelabelledaccordingtothesamplenumberspecifiedinTableA.1fortypetestingor
TableA.2forbatchtesting.
TestingshallbecarriedoutinthesequenceindicatedinTablesA.1andA.2.
Samples,completewithendconnections,shallpasstheperformancetestsinthisdocument.
6.2Watertightnesstest
WhentestedinaccordancewithClauseB.3,thetubeandfittingsshallshownosignsofcracks,leakageorotherfailure.Thehoseshallnotchangeinlengthordiameterbymorethan8%.
6.3Acceleratedageingbyheattreatmenttest
WhereprescribedinTableA.1,samplesshallbeconditionedbytheacceleratedheat-ageingtestspecifiedinClauseB.4.
6.4Tensilestressresistancetest
Thehoseassemblyshallpasstheminimumtensileforcetest,asstatedinTableB.5.1andasspecifiedinClauseB.5.Duringandafterthistest,thehoseassemblyshallshownocracks,damageorleakage.Atthecompletionofthetest,ifthefittingsareloosenedfromtheirseatinanaxialdirection,thesampleshallbedeemedtohavefailed.
6.5Hydraulicpulsationdurabilitytest
FlexiblehoseassembliesshallbetestedinaccordancewithClauseB.6andAS/NZS3707.Thesampleshallshownosignsofcracks,leakageorotherfailures.
6.6Thermalcyclingtest
Forhightemperature(H)hosesonly,theflexiblehoseassembliesshallbetestedfortheirabilitytowithstandtemperaturevariationsinaccordancewithClauseB.8.Aftertesting,thehoseassembliesshallshownosignsofcracks,leakageorotherfailure.
6.7Burstpressuretest
FlexiblehoseassembliesshallbetestedforconnectionwiththefixedpartofthewatersupplyinaccordancewithClauseB.7.Aftertesting,thehoseassembliesshallshownosignsofcracks,leakageorotherfailure.
6.8Bendingtest
FlexiblehoseassembliesshallbetestedinaccordancewithClauseB.9undertheconditionsspecifiedin
TableB.9.1.Whenmeasured,theovalityshallnotexceed—
(a)uptoDN20,15%oftheoutsidetubediameter;or
(b)DN25toDN50,20%oftheoutsidetubediameter.

6.9Contaminationofwater
AllmaterialsincontactwithdrinkingwatershallconformtoAS/NZS4020.Flexiblehoseassembliesshallbedeterminedasend-of-linefittingsforAS/NZS4020testingpurposes.
6.10Elastomericmaterials(tube)—Compressionset
ElastomericmaterialsorcomponentsshallbetestedtoAS1683.13orISO815-1at70℃for22h.Thecompressionsetshallnotexceed20%.
6.11Resistancetocorrosion
WhentestedinaccordancewithClauseB.10,hoseassemblies≤DN20shallnotshowanystructuraldefectincludingpittingandfrayedstrandswheninspected.
Endconnectorsshallbestructurallysound.Fitmenttothehoseshallbewatertight.
Hosestestedundersubmersibleconditionsautomaticallyconformtotheconditionsfornon-
submersiblehoses.
NOTECorrosiontestingdeterminestheresistanceofbraidingmaterialstodeteriorationindomesticapplications.Hoseassembliesintheseapplicationsareconsideredasbeinglimitedtothesizesindicated.
6.12Resistancetoultravioletdegradation
Materialsshallberesistanttoultravioletlightdegradation.WhentestedinaccordancewithClauseB.11,theflexiblehoseassembliesshallshownosignsofcracksorotherfailure.
Flexibleconnectorsthataredesignedtobeexposedtodirectsunlight,wheninstalled,shallnotcrack,crazeorexhibitsignsofanydefectwhentestedinaccordancewithClauseB.11.
EPDMandmetallicmaterialsareexemptfromthisrequirement.
6.13Conformancetospecification
WhencomparedwiththedetailsrequiredinClauseA.2,thephysicalmaterialsanddimensionsoftheflexiblehoseassembliesshallmatchthosestatedinClauseA.2.
ClauseB.12setsoutthemethodsandtolerancesforcomparison.
