SunYat-senUniversityorZhongshanUniversity(TraditionalChinese:中山高校;SimplifiedChinese:中山高校;pinyin:ZhōngshānDàxué)isaprominentuniversityinthesouthernpartofChina,locatedmainlyinGuangzhou.TheuniversityisnamedafterDr.SunYat-Sen,aphysicianandlaterpresidentoftheRepublicofChina.

Theuniversityconsistsof4campuses(SouthCampus,NorthCampus,EastCampusandZhuhaiCampus)withatotalareaof6.17squarekilometers.ThreeofthefourcampusesarelocatedinGuangzhou,thefourthisinZhuhai.

SunYat-senUniversity,originallyknownasNationalKwangtungUniversity(國(guó)立廣東高校),wasfoundedin1924byDr.SunYat-sen.ItcombinedNationalHigherNormalCollege(廣東高等師范小學(xué)),KwangtungProvincialLawCollege(廣東公立法科高校)andProvincialAgriculturalTechnicalSchool(廣東公立農(nóng)業(yè)特地小學(xué)),andafterhisdeathitwasrenamedNationalSunYat-senUniversityin1926.

Campus

ThecampuswasoriginallylocatedatShipai(石牌),EasternGuangzhou.Intheearly1950s,SunYat-senUniversitywasmergedwithLingnanUniversityandrelocatedtoKangleYuan(康樂園),SouthernGuangzhou,whichisnowcalledtheSouthCampus.In2000,theZhuhaiCampuswasestablishedinTangjia(唐家),cityofZhuhai.In2022,theformerSunYat-senUniversityofMedicalSciencesmergedintoSunYat-senUniversity,constitutingthecurrentNorthCampus.TheEastCampuswasestablishedin2022inGuangzhouHigherEducationMegaCenter(廣州高校城),Panyu,Guangzhou.

SunYat-senUniversityislocatedinGuangdongProvince,thefrontalofreformandopening.AtpresenttheUniversityhas4campuseswithatotalareaof6.17squarekilometerssittingrespectivelyonbothsidesofthePearlRiverorfacingtheSouthChinaSea.TheGuangzhouSouthCampuscoversanareaof1.17squarekilometers,theNorthCampuscoversanareaof0.39squarekilometers,andtheZhuhaiCampuscoversanareaof3.48squarekilometers.Allcampuseshaveexuberanceofgreentrees,abundanceoflawnsandbeautifulsceneries,andareidealformoldingthetemperaments,studyinganddoingresearch.TheGuangzhouEastCampushasanareaof1.13squarekilometersandisnowunderconstruction.

Alonghistoryandfinetradition

SunYat-senuniversityisaname-brandinstitutionofhighereducationwithfinetraditionsinteachingandlearning.In1924,Dr.SunYat-sen,greatleaderofthe20thcentury,foundedthisuniversitypersonally,andinscribedinhisownhandwritingtheschoolmottoof"Studyextensively;Enquireaccurately;Reflectcarefully;Discriminateclearly;Practiseearnestly."TheschoolwasoriginallynamedGuangdongUniversity,andlaterrenamedSunYat-senUniversityin1926.Inthe1930s,thereweresevenschoolsintheUniversity,whichweretheSchoolsofArts,Sciences,Law,Engineering,AgriculturalStudies,Medicine

andEducation.In1935,theUniversitysetuptheGraduateSchoolandbegantoenrollgraduatestudents.Inthe1950s,thecolleges,schoolsanddepartmentswerereadjustednationwide,andSunYat-senUniversitybecameacomprehensiveuniversitywiththeliberalartsandsciencesasitsbackbonedisciplines.SincethefoundingofthenewChina,SunYat-senUniversityhasalwaysbeenoneofnationalkeyuniversities,andisalsoamongthefirstbatchofinstitutestoawardDoctorateandMasterdegreesandtoestablish

post-doctoralresearchflowingstationsinourcountry.ApprovedbytheStateCouncil,theuniversitywasthefirsttosetupgraduateschoolintheSouthChinaareaintheearly1990s,thusofferingacompleterangeofdegreesfromthebachelor,mastertodoctorate.

TheUniversityhasbeenunceasinglyraisingthequalityofundergraduateeducationandhasbecomeanimportantbasefortraininghigh-leveltalents.Ontheoccasionofits70thanniversary,PresidentJiangZeminwrotetheinscriptionof"DevelopDr.SunYat-sen'srevolutionaryspirit,managetheUniversitybetterandmakegreatercontributions"whichfurtherpointsoutthedirectionforrunningschools.InSeptember2000,theZhuhaiCampusofSunYat-senUniversityinTangJiaWan,Zhuhaicity,wascompleted,whichexpandsthespaceandlaysasolidfoundationfordevelopmentinthenewcentury.OnOctober26,2022,SunYat-senUniversityandtheSunYat-senUniversityofMedicalScienceweremergedtoformthenewSunYat-senUniversity.TheMinistryofEducationandthegovernmentofGuangdongProvincesignedanagreement,bothpromisingtoinvest1.2billionRMBin3yearstobuildthenewSunYat-senUniversityintoafirstclassuniversitywithhighacademicstandards.

OneofthepredecessorsoftheSunYat-senUniversityofMedicalSciencewastheBoJiMedicalSchool,which,foundedin1866,wastheearliestinstitutionoflearningofwesternmedicineinourcountry,whereDr.SunYat-senoncestudiedandengagedinrevolutionaryactivities.TheBoJiMedicalSchoolevolvedintotheCollegeofMedicineofLingnanUniversityin1936.In1953,theCollegesofMedicineinSunYat-senUniversityandLingnanUniversitymergedtoformtheCollegeofMedicineofSouthChina,whichwasjoinedbytheGuangdongGuanghuaCollegeofMedicinein1954.TheuniversitywasrenamedGuangzhouCollegeofMedicineandSunYat-senCollegeofMedicalSciencesuccessively,andfinallySunYat-senUniversityofMedicalSciencein1985,whichhasdevelopedsteadfastlyintoacomprehensivemedical
